A to Z Update



My plate is full with demanding, though fun and meaningful, projects. I thought I could participate in the A to Z Blogger's Challenge but can not. This year I'm going to support fellow bloggers from the sidelines during April, visiting your blogs when I can.  I'm in the final stages of editing my soon-to-be-released book, writing my 7th book and preparing for my fall solo exhibition of my art, and that is a very full plate.

I hope to do a good job with what I'm working on and put my passion there. I'm stepping out of the challenge before it begins in order to write, edit and paint.

See you all on your blogs during the A to Z Challenge, and hope to participate again in 2018!

    I've come close to the same decision. I just decided I needed a little play. I tend to read several days of a blog at one time to keep up with my visits. Best wishes on your new book.

    Such a shame! But if this is how you feel, you're right to do it. YOu shoudl put your heart where it feels at home.

    Beautiful painting! Better to bow out now and focus on the stuff you need to do rather than be forced to leave later in the middle of things. Best of luck with all your projects.

    A shame you couldn't participate, but I get it. I had to sit out last year with too much going on. Congrats on your upcoming book release and art exhibit. Fantastic! :D

      Yes! I will miss it tremendously. There's something exhilarating about making it through a marathon of any kind but I'm overbooked. Thanks Sara!

Gran Bwa

Gran Bwa is a lwa that helps you connect to ancestral roots or the spiritual home of Vodou. A friend of mine, who is an expert on Haitian Vodou, who has spent a lot of time in Haiti with the artists there, told me I had painted Gran Bwa when I made this spontaneous work out of walnut ink and sumi-ink on handmade paper. I had considered this painting a self-portrait. She now holds this piece in her private collection: Quite a few people are afraid of Vodou but it is an awe-inspiring tradition of bringing together plant energy with divinity, spiritual and personal energy. My friend who is very involved with Vodou, especially the art that surrounds it, is from European ancestry. She is light in spirit and bubbly, with a close relationship to nature and her garden.  Vodou affirms the relationships between cycles of life, trees of knowledge and spirit.  The Vodou vision of lwa , understands them as the intelligence of energy present in humans, nature and thoughts.  Mysteries ca
